If you can't get it for a set of 5, it's too heavy to do for the SS program. Deload, build back up. Join Date Apr Posts 6, As already asked, how often do you deadlift? Originally Posted by mstrofbass.

The other reason, is that the 2x3 deadlifts might be stressing a different, better conditioned metabolic system than the 1x5 deadlifts, which kind of makes sense, but I'm not really sure what to make of this. Hopefully someone else will have a meaningful contribution to make. I think I understand what you are saying here but I also think the effect on recovery I am experiencing from the split up sets is different than how you are defining it.
I'm not saying the few minutes before my second set allow me to recover better - its more like the stoppage between sets delays "blowing the gasket" so to speak. Or another way of saying it is that by breaking it into two sets there is less of a cumulative stress effect from doing 5 reps in a row. Normally the reps in the set get harder and harder because each rep taxes your system and each subsequent rep has to be performed under a more taxed condition.
But when the set is stopped at three - then a short rest is taken - the last three reps are done without that immediate cumulative stress of the previous three reps. Of course the body is still taxed, but the body's taxed condition is different when the fourth, fifth and in this case sixth rep is done. Either way, it won't matter. Just keep at it for long enough and something will happen?!?! Fuck, there is something called taking yourself too seriously Jesus Christ If It's not broke don't fix it Damn it Right, I think what we're seeing is the difference in metabolic stress between the 3 and 5 rep sets.
Speaking in terms of metabolic effects, my bet is that the "blown gasket" feeling is when your ATP-PCr system gives out, and your body starts generating its power from the fast glycolytic. Remember that when you train, you're also training metabolic systems. I personally deadlifted too much, too heavy in when on Jim Wendler and had to pay the price by currting the deadlift out altogether for about four months to recover.
A correctly executed deadlift will leave the barbell very close to your shins. If yu do not wear Deadlift socks or any other pair of socks that goes up to the knee, you most likely will scrape your shins doing heavy deadlifts. Not a pleasant outlook if you have to do that every day and no time to heal. Find tips to get fit! Run for it. Why are there only 1x5 Deadlifts in Stronglifts 5x5?
