Great experience. First attempt. Made it. It was hard. Followed Breathe in and out technique. Helped to some extent. Worth for time and effort. Spectacular view. The trail was a challenge, but the views were more than worth it! I made a reservation free to catch the sunrise. I started out at my normal hiking pace and got winded very quickly.

The views on the Barr trail back down are also gorgeous. But it was worth it!!! Very tough. Like koko trail in Hawaii. Harder though. Took an hour to get to top. If you park at Hiawatha and take the shuttle make sure you bring a mask. Very challenging workout to the top with a nice relaxing hike down the switchbacks. Bring more water than you think you need! And if you park at the Hiawatha Gardens parking lot you can get a shuttle to the trail from there , definitely stop at the Tava food truck next to the lot.

The food was amazing and soooo needed after that workout. Use Navigator in the AllTrails app and join the other outdoor explorers who have completed this trail. The Incline Trail hard Length 6. The Incline Trail requires a free reservation to enter. Imagine climbing a rough uneven set of stairs that's a mile long. There are three bail out points, the last one is about half way up that will put you on Barr Trail.

Beware of the false summit just past the last bail out. Once you're at the top it is recommended that you turn south and hike or run back down Barr Trail hiking down the Incline is not encouraged. The view from the top over Colorado Springs is worth the effort. This is a great trail for training and it is what most people use it for. Please note that while dogs are allowed on other trails in the area, they are not allowed on the Incline Trail.

All users are required to make a free reservation online before their hike. The reservations will help staff manage the volume of people on the Incline at any given time. Reservations are open seven days in advance. Be sure to bring your confirmation, either on your phone or printed. Reservations are available 6 a. You can reserve more than one slot at a time, however, please only reserve days and times you plan to use.

You may also reserve a time slot for another user, but please limit group reservations to four hikers per time slot. Up to 45 reservations are available for each minute time slot. Reservations are for the time you will arrive at the Incline; you do not need to reserve sessions for the amount of time you will spend on the trail. Proof of parking from one of these locations must be presented during check-in at the base of the Incline.

Please remember to take a picture of your parking receipt to show the Incline Attendant. Reservations recommended. Where not to park: Incline users are not allowed to park in Barr Lot. There is limited parking there so if you can't find a spot you'll need to park on the side of the street. Be careful not to park at the cog railway or at the resteraunt, they will tow your car.

Go south through Manitou springs. Turn south left at ruxton ave the round about and go to the end of the road. The accepted spot to time yourself is from the bottom tie right above the Pikes Peak Cog Railway parking lot. Stop timing at the last tie at the top. These times and the times people talk about are just for going up the Incline. Although the rules for using the Incline stop short of prohibiting coming back down the Incline, they recommend one way up for safety.

The most popular way and recommended way to get back down is to go to the left when facing uphill and then down the connector trail to the Barr Trail. Going this way down takes about minutes at a quick walking pace with no stops. There are a few places with Manitou Incline times listed.

A lot of people in Colorado are in great shape so their incline time is right around 40 min and less if they are in awesome shape. For my age, however, 45 min is great. But I do agree that the locals are in better shape on average than much of the country, and being acclimated to the altitude DOES matter. Regardless of time, the Incline is one of my favorite Colorado activities!

I just finished my first time up and finished in My daughter 20 and I 51 finished in 80 minutes. We are from Lincoln Nebraska. It was a blast completing it my my daughter , something we will never forget!

I live in California at sea level. I hiked the incline for the first time in August of in a little over 46 minutes when I was just getting ready to turn I hiked it again this August, 3 weeks before by 61 st Birthday and did it in 45 minutes. My goal is to break 40 minutes but I would be happy just beating my tone each year. A group of family from Colorado and I met in Manitou Springs for this adventure. What a great experience! I live in Southern California, below sea level Imperial Valley and am My overall time was 66 minutes with several stops along the way.

I will definitely be back next Labor Day and try to beat my time. I started this trail by headlamp at am and completed it in 2 hours almost exactly. Went up the incline and down Barr Trail. Encountered some slippery steps near the top which slowed me down due to accumulated snow. I just did the incline. Drove from Kansas, was in town for two hours, and then did it in 52 minutes. Great trainer! Thank you Ray Leslie!! Being honest helps! I was here in and at the time was training for a half marathon.

It took me 35 minutes to hike and I was moving as fast as I could I ran my half marathon in for context.
